Rick A. Orwig, MAI, is the principal appraiser for Orwig Valuation Services. Since its inception, administrative services for the company have been provided virtually by staff who specialize in supporting commercial real estate industry professionals.
Rick is licensed by the State of California as a Certified General Appraiser and is a Designated Member of the Appraisal Institute. Rick has been performing valuations of real property since 2006. He began his appraisal career with Integra Realty Resources – Los Angeles, where he performed numerous complex valuations related to eminent domain actions, diminution in value issues, real estate damages, and other litigation matters. He also developed appraisals for lender financing, estate tax valuations, and asset management. At JP Morgan Chase Bank, Rick specialized in the appraisal of multifamily properties for the bank’s Commercial Term Lending group. Immediately prior to founding Orwig Valuation Services, he was a Senior Appraiser with Valentine Appraisal & Associates, where most of his work was related to full and partial acquisitions for various public projects including road improvement projects, grade separations, and the California High Speed Rail system. Rick’s experience also includes consulting and valuation work related to lease renewals and rent resets, leasehold analysis, utility easements, residential subdivision projects and property tax assessment disputes. Prior to entering the field of commercial real estate appraisal, he had a successful career in sales, marketing and management for numerous computer technology companies beginning with IBM. Rick also owned and operated a computer industry placement and contract staffing firm, as well as a computer project management and consulting company.
Rick enjoys being an active participant in organizations that support his profession and his community. Prior to relocating to Lake County in 2017, Rick held a variety of positions with numerous professional organizations. Representative positions within the Appraisal Institute including being Chair of the Education Committee for the Southern California Chapter, as well as Chair of the Northwestern Branch. As a member of the Los Angeles Chapter of the International Right of Way Association, he served as Chair of the Chapter 1 Fall Seminar in 2015. Meanwhile, upon his arrival in Lake County, Rick immediately found opportunities to serve the local community, which currently includes volunteering as a fire watch lookout on the Mt. Konocti Lookout Tower and as a Certified Tourism Ambassador for the Lake County Chamber of Commerce. Rick views his valuation and consulting work as yet another way to serve by supporting business and economic growth in Lake County.
